Halloween at Luan Gallery

Halloween 2024 at Luan Gallery posted: Oct 12

Luan Gallery will host a series of events over the Halloween midterm from Friday 25th to Thursday 31st of October. Set against the backdrop of the gallery’s current exhibition, Tuberclerosies, the event lineup offers arts and crafts workshops, pumpkin carving sessions, and a free film screening of the cult horror classic The Fog.  These events will encourage audiences to explore the dark and eerie themes in Kevin Mooney’s Tuberclerosies paintings and sculptures and celebrate Halloween's magic at Luan Gallery.

Luan Gallery will host a screening of the 1980 horror cult classic The Fog at 7pm on Friday 25th October. The screening will take place in the surroundings of Luan Gallery’s current exhibition, Tuberclerosies, a solo exhibition by Kevin Mooney.

The Fog is a 1980 American independent supernatural horror film directed by John Carpenter, starring Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins, Janet Leigh and Hal Holbrook. It tells the story of a strange, glowing fog that sweeps over a small coastal town in Northern California, bringing menacing spirits out for revenge upon the town’s inhabitants. The Fog's central themes are revenge and the resurfacing of "repressed past events" in small-town America, as it focuses on the supernatural vengeance inflicted on the residents of a community that has prospered from looted salvage.  Admission is free and the event is supported by the Arts Council.

Luan Gallery is hosting Halloween Pumpkin Lantern workshops on Saturday 26th October.  In this pumpkin carving workshop, participants will use artistic methods to design, craft, and carve their own Halloween pumpkin lanterns.  Taking inspiration from the spooky themes and monstrous figures in Luan Gallery’s current exhibition, TUBERCLEROSIES by Kevin Mooney, participants will be led in drawing and creating unique designs using various techniques and materials. Then, these designs will be carved into a pumpkin using child-friendly tools.

The workshops will take place on Saturday 26th October in Luan Gallery. The ticket price is €10. The first workshop is from 11 am to 12.30 pm and is suitable for children aged eight to eleven.

The second workshop is from 2 pm to 3:30 pm and is suitable for children aged twelve to sixteen. Please note that booking in advance is essential on www.luangallery.ie and that each workshop session is aimed at children in a specific age range.

Luan Gallery hosts Halloween mask-making workshops for children with local artist Claire Guinan. Children will be encouraged to take inspiration from the spooky themes and monstrous figures in Kevin Mooney’s current exhibition, Tuberclerosies, design and create unique faces and characters using a variety of techniques and materials, and then wear their creations for Halloween!

There will be lots of unusual materials to sculpt, paint, and craft with. Children can let their imagination run wild and have fun creating unique masks that will make their Halloween party or trick-or-treating adventure this year special!  These workshops will take place on Tuesday 28th, Wednesday 30th, and Thursday 31st in Luan Gallery.

Pre-booking is essential for all events. Please note that each workshop session is aimed at a specific age range, and parents must ensure they book a suitable session for their child’s age. You can book online at http://www.luangallery.ie or over the phone via Luan Gallery at 090 6442154.

Luan Gallery is open to the public Tuesday to Saturday from 11am – 5pm and Sundays from 12 – 5pm.  For further information, contact Luan Gallery at T: 090 6442154 or E: info@luangallery
